How to use sweet paprika in cooking

Sweet paprika is versatile. It adds colour and delicate aroma to stews, soups, sauces and marinades. It is a defining ingredient in traditional dishes such as Hungarian goulash and Spanish paella. Its mildness makes it suitable for poultry, fish and vegetable recipes, giving them an appetising colour and subtly complex flavour. Sweet paprika is also perfect for spice blends, adding visual appeal and flavour without overpowering the other ingredients.

The history of sweet paprika

The history of paprika goes back to the New World, where Christopher Columbus discovered peppers and introduced them to Europe. Hungary and Spain quickly adopted these peppers, turning them into the spice we know and love today. Over the centuries, paprika became a symbol of Hungarian and Spanish cuisine, with each country developing its own varieties and production techniques. Sweet paprika in particular is the result of centuries of cultivation and tradition, a true celebration of peppers’ natural sweetness.
