Zaatar-Infused Olive Oil
Ingredients:
50 g of Lebanese zaatar mix
A nice volume of quality olive oil: choose extra virgin olive oil, cold pressed, preferably from the Mediterranean region. A good olive oil is the key to infusing all the flavours of zaatar.
1 jar with airtight seal: this jar will allow you to store your infused oil in the best conditions, preserving its aromas and avoiding oxidation.
Making the zaatar-infused oil
Infuse the Oil:
Pour around 250 to 300 ml of olive oil into a small saucepan.
Heat the oil gently over low heat until it is lukewarm, but do not let it simmer or boil.
Add the zaatar to the warm oil and stir well so that the aromas begin to release. Let the oil infuse off the heat for about 30 minutes to 1 hour. The longer you let it steep, the more pronounced the flavours will be.
Strain and store:
If you prefer a smooth oil, you can filter the oil through a fine strainer or clean cotton cloth to remove zaatar residue. However, leaving the herbs in the oil can add a more intense flavour over time.
Once the infusion is to your liking, pour the oil into a clean, airtight jar. Store it in a cool place and away from light. It can be kept for several weeks, even months.
How to use your Zaatar scented oil?
This fragrance oil is incredibly versatile. It can be used for:
Seasoning salads: A simple drizzle on a tomato salad, cucumber salad, or fattoush salad will transform a simple dish into an explosion of flavours.
Dipping bread: Serve with fresh or toasted pita bread for an authentic Mediterranean taste experience.
Marinating meats or vegetables: Coat your meats, fish, or vegetables with this oil before grilling to give them a subtle but distinct zaatar flavour.
To finish off hot dishes: Drizzle your soups, stews, or even your homemade pizzas with a drizzle of zaatar oil just before serving for a tasty final touch.
Why choose Zaatar fragrance oil?
Zaatar flavoured oil is not only a way to discover new flavours, it's also a way to bring a piece of the Mediterranean into your kitchen. It combines the benefits of olive oil, rich in antioxidants and monounsaturated fatty acids, with the digestive and anti-inflammatory properties of zaatar.
Whether you are a fan of Middle Eastern cuisine or simply looking for an original way to enhance your dishes, this scented oil will quickly become a must-have in your kitchen.
Tip: For an even more aromatic oil, you can add a lightly crushed garlic clove or a few lemon zests during infusion.
